GEFNFL - 1994 Game Summaries

(Very sketchy records exist from this year)

Subject: The Year in Review 1994

Week 8 Synopsis:
Yes, it was thin, we had 6 people, but we were
lucky enough to have 4 guys (who were playing when
we got there) to join us. That gave us 5 on 5.
Gold team had Tom, myself and 3 rookies. Blue
contained Bill, Kyle, Gary, Chris and one rookie.

Scoring was much more even this week. If fact,
it was close to tied at the end. (Chris am I right?)
With my failing memory (please correct any inaccuracies),
I think no one scored more than 2 TDs combined
throwing or receiving. Tom, Kyle, Bill, and myself and
a couple of the rookies were in that category.

Play-of-the-Day was the game ending call by the
wife of one of the rookies on Gold Team. She pulls
up on Racine Ave. Marches down to the field and signals
in the call by waving to her husband (or boyfiend).
From the huddle he waves back to her. Tom quietly suggests
to the Gold team that she might be pissed. She then
declares, "I'm leaving!" turns and heads back to the
car saying even louder "I'm not going to wait THE REST
OF MY LIFE for you." The poor rookie could take it no
more and broke formation to go plead his case to his
coach. The rest of us decided to head to Club 400
before our wives showed up.
The runner up for the Play-of-the-Day was Chris
Gilling's dive and roll catch in the end zone.

Week 11:
We played 4 on 3 with Bill Ray as DQB most of the time.
I think Blue Team was ahead by one at the end. Bill was on
offense all the time so he was way ahead in the stats with
about 9 TD passes and a TD catch. For the rest of us playing
both sides of the ball Chris Gilling lead with 5 TD catches,
1 TD Pass and 1 INT, I chased him all night ending with
4 TD catches and 2 TD Passes.

   The Play-of-the-Day I had a hard time picking. Bill's
short yardage, low mobility pass pattern caught for a TD
(thrown by Cliff, well defended by me). Cliff's down-out-
and-down for a TD (thrown by Gary, poorly defended by me).
Gary's long legged pursuit of Chris Gilling down the
sideline that saved a TD. Chris Gilling's fancy footwork
hauling in a sideline pass and getting his feet just into
the front corner of the endzone (my pass). Or one of my
long runs after the catch for a TD (I was sucking air a
lot that night) especially the one where I had to get around
Gary, turning a 30 Yard run into a 60+ yard run. You
pick your favorite.

The Edgar Award goes to Bill Ray and me this week.
Bill for playing designated Quarterback with a pulled
hamstring, back and neck. And me for for dropping
5 kick-offs before grabbing one that I pitched to
Chris Gilling for a 50 Yard return.

Pro Bowl Review:
With a trunk full of trophies as incentive, Gold Team
took it to the Blue team. Gold Team was Bill Jr., Craig,
Tom Sweinberg and myself. Blue Team was Bill Sr., Al Demars,
Vince and Ed. Playing on a real 100 yard field at Eisenhower
High at least one record was set. Of course the batteries
were already dead in our camera crew's camera by that time.
DEFENESE! DEFENSE! Three defensive TDs by Gold set the tone
of the game:
1st TD was a 50 yard INT by Bill Jr. Gold up by one.
(God, I love down field blocking)
2nd TD was 25 yard Screen Scramble by Bill Jr.
(Sorry for knocking Bill Sr. out of that play, my ankle
       felt much better after that)
3rd TD was a a 98 yard INT by Sweinberg setting the all
time record and putting Gold up by 3.
4th TD was a 45 yard INT by Sweinberg as he was on his
way to a MVP game (he gets another INT a little later,
which for some reason he doesn't score on, making him
the stat leader), Gold up by 4.
Field goal attempt by Vince on the Blue Team failed.
Last TD Scored by Blue Team from Al to Bill Sr. for about
       25 yards.

  Final: Blue 1, Gold 4.

Play-of-the-Day was obviously Tom's 98 yard INT for a TD.
I win the Edgar Award with a INT 2 yards deep in the endzone
which I returned 97 yards to the other five yard line. Thanks
to Bill Jr. for staying with me to help block and kudos to
Bill Sr., who would not give up and tagged me at the five.
(The three of us would like to thank the cheering section
at the other endzone - great play guys!) This may have been
my only chance to break Tom's newly set record. I have a
deeper appreciation for the effort Tom put into his runback!

Could there be a Pro Bowl II or a Snow Bowl?
