GEFNFL - 1995 Game Summaries

(The first year of reasonably complete records)

Subject: The Year in Review 1995

WEEK 1 Hold outs
WEEK 2 Hold outs
WEEK 3

At last, with all the contracts signed the season
gets under way! Gold beat Blue 4 to 1. I guess
we needed the preseason because most of our completions
were to the other teams. Off the top of my head I can
 count about 9-10 interceptions.

TD Passes by Schott, Becker, Gilling, Larry, Billy
TD Catches by Bill,? , Billy, Cliff, Gilling respectively.
I guess statman needs to take notes...

Injury report: Kyle blew his knee, but he was up and walking
around at Chumley's. He says he'll be back, I call it
a season ending injury. We'll see who is right.

Stat leader Dave Becker with a TD throw and (count them)
 4 interceptions.

WEEK 4

Great weather under the lights at Buchner Friday with
Blue smoking Gold by ~9 to 1. Statman was on Gold and
quickly lost track of who was doing what, especially after
the pit stop at Club 400. Either statman needs to play
on Blue or we need an assistant statman on the other
 side of the ball.

Fred, I believe, turned in the biggest game throwing
for 3 and catching 1 TD. Sweinberg & Southgate also
deserve a mention for good games.

WEEK 5 Rained out (Hurricane Opal)

Even though I have 10 - 13 YES, many have expressed concern.
Hurricane Opal has cancelled our game.

Bill wanted to put together a reunion of anyone who
ever played in our league. This dates back about
15 years. (Yes Linda that includes you too.) Let me
or Bill Ray know how much interest there is in the idea.

WEEK 6

Great night for football gang! Blue still took out
Gold by a score of 9 to 4. Stat leader was Fred Coxey
throwing for 4 TDs and catching one INT. Scoring and
INT were spread more throughout the group, with great
games turned in by Gilling, Southgate, Fedak, Lesmeister,
and Bill Jr. The first tackle of the season was recorded
by Chris Gilling, but I hung on the the ball anyway.

Play of the game was Fred's interception of my throw.
Caught in a crowd at his own 40 yard line, he ran it
back untouched, thanks to a bunch of blocking by his
team. Including a Southgate block, that took the QB out of
the play.

Gold's attempt to catch up included the dreaded no huddle
offense that produced a long drive that ended with a Chris
Gilling interception 2 yards deep in the end zone. He
ran that back for a TD. 102 yards on our shortened field.
This does not break a Tom Sweinberg's 98 yard INT return
on the full length Eisenhower field. This in no way
diminishes Chris's effort, and belongs in our record
with an asterisk. Great play Chris.

WEEK 7

I was out of town shortly after the bar stop after the
game so I enlisted the help of assistant statman for this
weeks game summary.

Subject: stats from Friday Oct. 20

Blue 2
Yellow 3

Wayne,

I think this was all of the stats that I remember from Friday.
I figured that if someone did not get them down on paper
the game update would be forgotten.

Blue started out with an early 2 - 0 lead but then Yellow
came storming back to a 3-2 Lead when the final gun sounded.
Shutting down a last minute drive by the blue team that was sure
to result in the tying TD.

Scoring

Bill Ray 4 Passing (considering all time QB) TD's
                     1 Receiving TD
Wayne Schott 1 Receiving TD
                     1 Int
Billy Ray 1 Receiving TD
Kyle 1 Int
Gary Sima No Stats but performed like a true veteran
Greg L. No stats but a good effort for a rookie
Fred C. 2 Receiving TD's
                     1 Passing TD
                     2 Int

It was easy to remember this when the scoring was so low.
----- End Included Message -----

So Stat leaders were Bill Ray, Fred Coxey. Easy to see why
Fred was keeping track.

WEEK 8

Five people showed Friday, Doug headed on his way.
We threw the ball a bit just so we could justify the
trip to Club 400. Then we played a little 2 on 2!
No crossing patterns here folks!

  Bill & Tom against Brian & I. They won 6 to 3.
That automatically make Bill & Tom tied as stat
leaders, since they were both in on every TD.
Brian is still learning the offense but showed good
speed and agility.

The Play-of-the-Day was by my wife, who faked a run
to Green Bay for the weekend, then switched cars and
took both our jersey's & the key for the lights up north.

WEEK 9

It was a cold one and Ultrasound (Blue) took it
on the chin with a 6 to 1 loss. Credits go to
Bill, Cliff, Southgate, Fedak, & Sweinberg whose
interceptions, TD throws & catches pushed
Gold over the top & kept Blue guessing all night.
The most important thing is that we played hard
(don't tell the Packers I said that).

The Play-of-the-Day goes to Terry Duesterhoeft who
showed up at the bar to help us drink the beer.

WEEK 10 Cancelled - Rain

WEEK 11

The turf was in tough shape, a plowed field of mud
with patches of ice & grass, orange chalked lines
and a light dusting of snow as we slugged it out to
a 6 to 6 tie. The goal post are gone negating any
field goal attempts. We had a turn out of 7 and the
weather cooperated with temps in the high 30s.

Chris Gilling was the stat leader with 4 TD passes, 4 TD
catches and one interception for a TD. (it helps when you
change sides a lot to keep an extra QB on offense)

4 interceptions were recorded, one each for Fred, Chris, Curt,
and me.

Play-of-the-Day goes to Cliff for his kickoff return
for a touchdown. You don't see that much in this league.

Other notes: Fred was our official "mudder" who turned in the
dirtiest jersey of all time. Riley played!

Pro Bowl (as reported by Bill Ray)

Cliff, his brother Jeff and I took on Bill Jr and 3 UW-Whitewater guys.

Even with the extra guy, the college boys were not able to stop the old
farts. By my count, we won 6-5. I think the three of us all threw and
caught touchdowns and had an INT. We were able to move the ball well
by going to the flat short and running pump/action plays (down, out and up
as well as crossing patterns). They were easily fooled by the trick
plays as well -- we actually successfully ran a double reverse pass play

MVP -- Cliff's brother, Jeff. Cliff and I were sucking wind towards the
end of the game despite a halftime break - we played the complete 100 yards
with only one first down opportunity. Jeff made some great driving catches
and held the defense together with his endurance and speed. I guess, youth
does have it's privileges.

Looking forward to playing Friday -- hopefully, the snow will last.

Al DeMars may be there Friday. Count Bill Jr and myself as being there!

Super Bowl!!

On the Frozen Tundra of Waukesha's south side, Ultrasound
(Gold) again takes it on the chin with tough 3 to 4 lose.
Snow depth varied from a inch or two in the middle to six
inches with a frozen crust on it in the endzone.

The game went into overtime with a see-saw battle for
that last touchdown. I think about 4 INTs were involved in
the melee.

Stats looked like this:

	      TD Pass TD Catch Interception
GOLD
  Schott 1 1
  Kyle 1
  Lesmeister 1 1
  McEathron 1 1 1
  Coxey 1
  Riley
BLUE
  Sweinberg 1 1
  Ray 2 1
  Ray Jr.
  Polentini 1
  Schofield 1 1
  Southgate 2 2

Injury Report
Brian McEathron is out with sprained?/broken? finger on a
Southgate quarterback sneak that was a head down charge up
the middle, as I recall, we only had to touch him not tackle him.

Play-of-the-Day
Cliff for showing up in street clothes and playing as the
designated center. He even had a phone for getting the plays
from the coach.

Random Game Quotes:
"Why doesn't anyone run the pass patterns I called?"

"Damn, Southgate is everywhere! Did he get fast since he blew the
   crotch out of his pants?"

"I hate having the season end. We should play until the Packers
   are eliminated from the playoffs."

"We should have MVP voting, too"

IKE Bowl

The field was covered with an inch or two of snow with a hard
ice crust. The stands were filled with our one fan. Who was
so thrilled to be there, that she ran onto the field to become,
only the 2nd lovely young lady to join our game. She was the
1st not to have any children(or grandchildren) of her own.
Her stats stand at 1 catch for 10 yards.

You missed a great game folks. Gold beat Blue by 6 to 3, ending
my personal losing streak that dates back to the 2nd game of the
season. Fred was the stat leader, beating me & Schofield out by
one interception. Any error in these stats are due to beer drinking
and a great Packer game, afterwards.

Stats:
GOLD TD Pass TD Catch INT
  Coxey 3 1 1
  Schott 1 3
  Schofield 2 2
  Southgate 1
BLUE
  Bill Ray 3 1
  Bill Jr. 2 2
  Kyle 0 0 0
  Joe Glatzel 1

Play-of-the-Day goes goes to me, sort of. Kyle caught a nice pass,
wide open on the sidelines and was streaking the last 30 yards or so
toward the end zone. He was even starting his famous endzone
celebration/chicken walk. I came all the way from the short center
zone to down him while he was doing his dance. I then had to
turn him around to show him he still had 5 yards to go to get into
the endzone. (It was clearly marked with 3 foot orange cones.)
It made my whole season worth while.

See you guys in Spring Training,
Schott out
