GEFNFL - 2002 Game Summaries(Under construction ... needs everything after Week 4) WEEK 1 Outstanding night for football, cool enough to play without sweating to death. The only downside was the cloud of mosquitoes that seemed to wait for us at each huddle. 16 (Not all at the same time) of your Blue & Gold Warriors fought it out, in a see-saw battle, resulting in a 4 to 4 tie (as we ran out of players). Bud Selig would have been proud. Stat-Leaders: Ken Vosniak with 2 TD Receptions, and 1 INT, and John Zur with 1 TD Pass, 1 TD Reception and 1 INT. Play-of-the-Day: The names might not be right, so feel free to correct me. From about 10 yards out Andrew Hussli(or was it Dan Rhode) fires a pass to whomever which get tipped up by Paul Edwards to somehow get pulled down by Ken Vosniak in the end zone. Ok, so we are starting out kind of tame this year. It was either that or my surprise climbing of the construction fence, balancing on the stack of shifting scaffolds to retrieve the ball that Gary Sima bounced into the construction zone near the back of the end north zone. The adventures of Chris Mullens' Gray Notre Dame sweatshirt: Where abouts unknown, The FBI has been called. (That would be FBI - Foot Ball Investigations.) Another outstanding night for football as your Blue & Gold Warriors pounded the grid iron. Blue seemed to have the edge most of the night, but still only ended up with a 4 to 3 lead. Our first drive by shouting, and about 8 fans showed up Stat-Leader: There was a tie between Chris Freer and Wayne Schott each with exactly the same stat record for the game, with 2 Passing TDs, 1 Reception TD and an INT. Play-of-the-Day: Chris Mullens fired a nice on target bullet pass down field, crossing back to defend it Bill Ray Jr. stabbed a hand directly in its path tipping back a few yards to a second receiver Ryan August, who took it a full run another 10 yards. An honorable mention goes to the 45 yard lay-out catch by Dave Dubberstein, that one was a long time coming for Dave. Injury Status: Dwyer was in and out with a hamstring problem. Dave Dubberstein was right about the rain stopping, however the rain returned the late in 4th quarter. Blue got off to a good start and just kept Gold chasing all night, not unlike the Monday night Packer-Bear game. Blue's zone defense picked up 4 times as many INTs as Gold's defense which tended toward man to man. The cross winds were also a factor, but I figure that to be even for both sides. Final score was Blue 6 and Gold 3. Fred Coxey showed up too late for anything but helping to drink a few beers at Mickey's - no stats for that... Stat-Leaders: Ryan August was the leader in stats with 1 Pass TD and 2 Rec TD's and 2 interceptions. He seemed to be everywhere that the ball was, al night. Play-of-the-Day: Dan Rhode's 3 bounce 40 yard TD catch on a deep slant pattern. Great concentration. Or maybe it was rookie, Osi Aniakudo's 30 yard interception for a TD of Tom Sweinberg's Hit of the day listed below. I can't really decide. Hit of the Day: Goes to Tom Sweinberg who was hit both high and low, while attempting a catch on a sharp slant pattern, in heavy traffic. And yes, he hung on to the ball! Robert Brooks would have been proud. BLUE PASS REC RUSH INT NAME TD TD TD INT TD SACK ===================== ==== === ==== === === ==== ANIAKUDO, OSI 1 1 1 1 EDWARDS, PAUL R.
